ethical fashion | my fall picks

I'm currently putting together my capsule wardrobe for fall and thought I'd share some of my favorite pieces and trends I've been eyeing for the upcoming season.  I'm loving shades of plum, rust, and olive green this year and looking forward to integrating some color in my otherwise boring black and gray neutrals.

I've picked six things that I think would be great investment pieces for your cooler weather wardrobes.  A linen dress in a classic check print (o1), a rust colored coat (o2), a warm wool kimono (o3), the perfect windowpane fall blouse (o4), a verstile cardigan that can be worn three different ways (o5), and a pair of well made flats that go with everything in your closet (o6).  Click the image to view the sources and let me know what you're thinking of adding to your fall capsule!

This weeks fashion post is an outfit I would wear on a date night or out to dinner...the wedges make it a little fancy and the leather jacket elevates the simple silk cami and skirt combo.  Speaking of skirts, you'll notice I am wearing nothing but them lately.  My postpartum bod is currently avoiding pants like the plague, so I'll be sharing lots of dress and flowy skirt outfits until the cold weather forces me into more practical options. I'm surprised that I actually miss wearing pants...who knew this girly girl had it in her.

baptism day

Please join me in welcoming Miss Eulalie Rose into the church!  We were in Louisiana for the Labor Day holiday celebrating this joyous day.  I will be forever grateful for all those who made it out to see us. My family and friends spoil us with their love and generosity.  Brad's sister Kathereine served as the godmother and my brother Jeremy is her godfather.  He is currently a seminarian for our diocese so please keep him in your prayers!  We put a lot of prayer into that decision and I know they will be a worthy example of Christianity for their niece (we were touched they agreed to it!).

My in-laws gave Eulalie the sweetest party filled with the delicious southern food fare Louisiana is known for. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face the entire day...The Lord has blessed us abundantly indeed. Enjoy the photos of Eulalie in her pretty gown and Pier in his Sunday best suspenders (oh my heart....)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
— John 1: 1-5

I'm writing today with the windows open and a candle lit and a sleeping baby on my chest.  Moments like this are becoming rarer and rarer these days, but that makes them all the more precious whenever they do happen.  Being a mama of two is no joke and I'm quickly figuring out that blogging won't happen as often as I'd like (because my kids will always come before this blog, as I'm sure you understand!).  I will try to be better about carving out writing time because I so enjoy stretching my creativity and sharing my days with you.

Speaking of which, I have some new fashion posts in the works.  I love doing these but they do take some extra thought to work out...probably because I am either in PJs or exercise clothes 99% of the time.  That, and my photographer hubby needs to have some off days which doesn't happen too often ;).

Today's outfit gets me excited for fall.  It's effortlessly comfortable and perfect for transitional fall weather (just throw on a jacket or sweater and you're good to go!).  If you read my capsule wardrobe tips you might remember that I recommend having a cohesive color palette to pick from.  My wardrobe colors, for example, usually consists of blue, green, and neutral hues.  This skirt is one of the few warmer toned things in my closet, but that's why I love it so much.  It's a statement -- which I think every closet needs.  My orange skirt goes well with any neutral top in my wardrobe (making it versatile) but it's also unique enough to make an otherwise boring outfit a bit more fun.  As much as I love neutral basics, I can't help but gravitate toward color every now and then!  This colorful patterned skirt simply makes me happy each time I wear it.

1 | Eulalie turned one month old on August 10th...fastest month ever.

2 | Brad turned 29 on August 19th.  He was working the entire b-day weekend, but we surprised him at work with handmade cards and birthday cake (that Pier helped mama bake!)

3 | Brad and I got to go on not one, but TWO dates this month thanks to the grandparents

4 | My in-laws came to visit Indiana to meet their newest grandchild

5 | We survived our first family of four road trip to Louisiana (!!!)

6 | We checked off the Indiana State Fair off of our Midwest bucket list.  Pier rode a pretend Lil Sebastian and wasn't excited about it (but mama loved it because, memories. And what kid doesn't want to ride a pony?)

7 | Brad started interviewing for post-residency jobs in Louisiana (surreal!!!)

8 | Eulalie started giving us big smiles and laughs in her sleep.

9 | We took the kids to their first baseball game and Pier LOVED it.

10 | Gertie still isn't used to being outnumbered by tiny people, but I know she'll eventually love Eulalie as much as she loves Pier (...lol...)

11 | I took a social media and (unintended) blogging break.  I felt like I needed to refocus and refresh and I think it's going to be a regular thing!  It helped me prioritize the important things...prayer, playing with my kids, and being faithful to my household responsibilities.  I highly recommend fasting from technology every now and then!
